The Levittown Collection of Stewart Bird at Hofstra University Special Collections is comprised of documents and VHS video images used in research for Stewart Bird's documentary "Building the American Dream: about Levittown, Long Island, New York. Bird's documentary was produced for Cablevision TV. There are also materials relating to Levittown, Pennsylvania.
The collection contains 26 video tapes and one reel-to-reel audio tape. There are also documents including video logs and transcripts, which correspond to the tapes. The content includes images of Levittown throughout the years, interviews, and notes about editing. A list of video tapes is available in each box.
Documents in the collection include clippings, correspondence, publications, records, and video-related documents.

Collection is comprised of largely 8x10 black and white photos taken circa 1948. The photographs depict construction workers and craftsmen engaged in a variety of tasks, including street paving, painting, pouring concrete, and operating heavy machinery, in Levittown and the surrounding areas. Also included are photographs of construction supplies, vehicles, and equipment. In addition, a particularly noteworthy photograph shows individuals signing rental leases or homeowner's contracts.
