Description

Business note from James Spearing to Joseph Birdsall. The note requested that Birdsall send to Spearing by the bearer of the note, Mrs. Rhoads, powder and shott [sic] and to charge them to his account. The location at the top of the note is listed as "Hempstead." Note: Birdsall owned a general store in Jerusalem (present-day Wantagh), N.Y. He was also a surveyor, a partner in a grist mill, a teacher in the Jerusalem school, and a lieutenant in the loyalist militia.
