Receipt for payment of eleven pounds, one shilling, and four pence made by Joseph Burcham (alternate spelling of Birdsall) to Samuel Seaman, a New York City merchant. The payment was for the purchase of a barve [?] of rum. Note: Birdsall owned a general store in Jerusalem (present-day Wantagh), N.Y. He was also a surveyor, a partner in a grist mill, a teacher in the Jerusalem school, and a lieutenant in the loyalist militia.
