Promise to pay note for one pound, six shillings, and four pence from Benodous Hendrickson to John Garner. Note: Garner arrived in the United States from Armagh County, Northern Ireland, and settled in Jerusalem (present-day Wantagh), N.Y., sometime round 1801. He was a teacher at the Jerusalem school and also was a business partner in John C. Birdsall’s general store. He may also have been a business partner of James Jackson's.

The verso of the note contains a receipt for a payment in the amount of twelve pounds, 11 shillings, and one pence and a half penny, which satisfied the note. Note: Birdsall owned a general store in Jerusalem (present-day Wantagh), N.Y. He was also a surveyor, a partner in a grist mill, a teacher in the Jerusalem school, and a lieutenant in the loyalist militia.

In the note, Jones requests that Birdsall "let the bearer hereof have a half Dozen Sheets of paper that is good and clean an place it to my account and in so Doing you will oblige your friend." The address on the top of the note was "Bedels Neck," which may possibly have been in the Town of Oyster Bay. Note: Birdsall owned a general store in Jerusalem (present-day Wantagh), N.Y.
