Description
View of the Sag Harbor Whaling and Historical Museum, as seen from the end of the driveway. A whaleboat is on the lawn, at left. Printed text on the verso provides a brief history of the museum. Note: Built in 1845, the building was originally the home of Benjamin Huntting, a prominent Sag Harbor citizen who owned whaling ships. It later was the summer home of philanthropist Mrs. Russell Sage until the time of her death in 1918. The building was then purchased by the Masonic Lodge in 1920. In 1945, it was deeded to the museum. The Masonic Lodge still uses the second floor as a Masonic Temple. (B&W)
