Description

Business note from Gabriel Van Cots to Joseph Birdsell (alternate spelling of "Birdsall"). In the note, Van Cots requests that Birdsall let John Smallen have the value "of four shillings upon my acount [sic]." Note: Birdsall owned a general store in Jerusalem (present-day Wantagh), N.Y. He was also a surveyor, a partner in a grist mill, a teacher in the Jerusalem school, and a lieutenant in the loyalist militia.
