Description
Receipt for payment of seven pounds and nineteen shillings made by Joseph Birdsall to James & Harry Peters, New York City merchants. The payment was for the purchase of dry goods, including writing paper, women's hats, men's stockings, combs, linen, needles, and pins. Note: Birdsall owned a general store in Jerusalem (present-day Wantagh), N.Y. He was also a surveyor, a partner in a grist mill, a teacher in the Jerusalem school, and a lieutenant in the loyalist militia.
