Description

Business note from James Thustin? (possible an alternate spelling for "Thurston") to Joseph Birdsall. In the note, Thustin requests that Birdsall send him "by the barrer [sic] one pound of powder and four pounds of shot and one black handkerchief and in so doing will obblige [sic] yours to serve." The location at the top of the note is listed as "Oyster Bay South." Note: Birdsall owned a general store in Jerusalem (present-day Wantagh), N.Y. He was also a surveyor, a partner in a grist mill, a teacher in the Jerusalem school, and a lieutenant in the loyalist militia.
