Description

Receipt for payment of 2 pounds, 16 shillings, and 6 pence made by Joseph Birdsall to David Michelson, a New York City merchant. The payment was for the purchase of one loaf of lump sugar and three bowls. Note: Birdsall owned a general store in Jerusalem (present-day Wantagh), N.Y. He was also a surveyor, a partner in a grist mill, a teacher in the Jerusalem school, and a lieutenant in the loyalist militia.
