Description
Receipt for payment of $11.40 made by Mr. Gardner [most likely John B. or William Garner, Sr.] to F. Herzog, at Hicksville, N.Y., for the purchase of grain, rum, and machine oil. [Gardner was an alternate spelling for "Garner."] Note: William and John B. were sons of John Garner (?-1833) and Sarah Birdsall (1790-1836). They were farmers in Jerusalem (present-day Wantagh), N.Y. John B. Garner also appeared to have continued operating John C. Birdsall’s general store after Birdsall's death.
