Description
Promise to pay note in the amount of eleven pounds, fourteen shillings, and eight pence and a half penny, plus interest, from Joseph Birdsall to George Youngs. The verso of the note contains a receipt for a payment in the amount of twelve pounds, 11 shillings, and one pence and a half penny, which satisfied the note. Note: Birdsall owned a general store in Jerusalem (present-day Wantagh), N.Y. He was also a surveyor, a partner in a grist mill, a teacher in the Jerusalem school, and a lieutenant in the loyalist militia.
