Space Age technology abounded at the 1964/65 New York World's Fair. Perhaps no better example of this is the AMF Monorail transportation system, seen here, which took fairgoers around the Lake Amusement Area 40 feet in the air. Hailed as the mass transportation service of the future, it provided visitors with stunning views of the fairgrounds and plenty of picture taking opportunities. Built at a budget of over $5,000,000, it was designed not only as a fair attraction, but as an option for major cities to consider for ways to combat traffic congestion and transportation issues.
